Still need to file your 2018 state return? Help is available!

June 22, 2019

Tax Day has come and gone, but it’s not too late to file your 2018 state income tax return. In fact, free tax prep help is available both online and in-person at locations around California.

April 15 was the deadline for taxpayers who owed tax. But if you didn’t get around to filing, remember that everyone gets an automatic, six-month filing extension to file until Oct. 15.

To file your state income taxes for free online, consider using our free CalFile software. Or, if you would like help in person, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program offers sites around the state for families making $55,000 or less. To find one near you, visit CalEITC4Me.org/get-it-2/.

There are many benefits to filing. You may be eligible for a refund, and you may also be eligible for the expanded, cash-back California Earned Income Tax Credit, or CalEITC. This credit is designed to help low-income working families, and when paired with a similar federal EITC, can put hundred or even thousands of extra dollars in your pocket.
