Paid Family Leave Personal income types
The Paid Family Leave (PFL) program provides compensation when you take off work for:
- The birth and care of a new child
- Bonding with a child you adopted or fostered
- The care of a family member who has a serious health condition, which includes:
- Yourself
- Spouse/RDP
- Child
- Parent/Parent-in-law
- Grandparent
- Grandchild
- Sibling

How to report
Federal return
Report your wages when you file your federal return.
California return
This income will be included in your federal adjusted gross income, which you report on your California return.
Make a subtraction adjustment on the unemployment compensation line, in column B, of California Adjustments – Residents Schedule CA (540).
