State Controller Malia M. Cohen available for interviews on Tax Day, April 15

Sacramento – State Controller and Franchise Tax Board (FTB) Chair Malia M. Cohen will be available for live and taped interviews to share tax tips for last-minute filers on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, from 7 AM to 9 AM at FTB in Sacramento.

Visual opportunities:

Media will be able to capture footage of FTB employees working in the tax return processing area, including equipment used to open and sort paper returns and high-speed document scanners in operation.

Key topics include:

  • What to do if you haven’t filed yet or can’t file by Tax Day
  • How to claim the California Earned Income Tax Credit
  • Tips to avoid tax scams
  • Where to find fast and free e-file options
  • How to get a fast refund, track refund status and payment options

DATE: Wednesday, April 15, 2026

The Franchise Tax Board administers two of California’s major tax programs: Personal Income Tax and the Corporation Tax. We also administer other non tax programs and delinquent debt collection functions, including delinquent vehicle registration debt collections on behalf of the Department of Motor Vehicles, and court–ordered debt. Annually, our tax programs collect more than 75 percent of the state’s general fund. For more information on other taxes and fees in California, visit: taxes.ca.gov.
