How to Register for a Withholding Agent MyFTB Account
Before you begin
MyFTB provides withholding agents with the ability to file Forms 592, 592-F, and 592-PTE online. You must register and activate your account to access this service. To do this, you will need to provide:
- Your full name and Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)
- Your email address and phone number
- The mailing address and account number for the withholding agent account
- Information from a Form 592, 592-F, or 592-PTE filed for one of the past 5 tax years
Important! If your mailing address has changed since you filed your last withholding statement, call us to update your information before you register for a MyFTB account: 800-792-4900.
Overview of MyFTB registration
Once you review and accept the terms and conditions for using MyFTB, you will be guided through the registration process.
- This starts with creating an account profile.
- You will then need to provide information about your withholding agent account so we can make sure we show you the correct information.
- We will mail you a Personal Identification Number (PIN) letter to the withholding agent’s address. You must use this PIN to activate your account.
- Once you complete the activation, you will have full access to your MyFTB account.
Steps to register for a withholding agent representative MyFTB account
Step 1: Start the registration process
You can start the registration process on the Withholding on nonresidents page by selecting Register for a MyFTB withholding agent account.
Step 2: Review and agree to the usage agreement
You must check the boxes to indicate that you have read and agree to the terms and conditions for access and use of MyFTB.
Step 3: Provide general registration information
- Enter your first and last name. Do not enter the name of the business.
- Select a user name. It must be 4 to 17 characters and include only letters and numbers. No spaces or special characters allowed. Do not use your email address or ID number as your user name.
- Enter your email address. We will send an email confirmation at the end of the process. We will also use this address to notify you when your account is accessed or your password is about to expire.
- Create a password. Your password must be 15 to 32 characters and include both upper- and lower-case letters, a number, and a special character. You cannot include common words such as "password” or more than 3 consecutive or repeating characters.
Step 4: Provide your personal ID number
You must provide your personal ID number to register for MyFTB. This can be your Social Security Number (SSN) or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the IRS.
Step 5: Provide account information
You must provide information about the withholding agent account you wish to access.
- Enter the numbers in your withholding agent mailing address and US ZIP Code.
- If your address does not have numbers or is not in the US, select the appropriate checkbox.
- If your mailing address has changed since you filed your last withholding statement, call us to update your information before you register for a MyFTB account: 800-792-4900.
- Select the account ID type and number that you use on your withholding statement (Form 592, Form 592-F, or Form 592-PTE).
- Select the year on a CA withholding statement you filed for one of the last 5 tax years and which form you filed. You will also need to enter the total tax withheld from that statement.
- If you need assistance with your return information, contact us at 800-792-4900 or 916-845-4900 (outside the U.S.).
Step 6: Certify you are authorized to access this account
You must check the box to certify that you are authorized to access this account. Then select Submit.
Step 7: Provide phone number
MyFTB uses multi-factor authentication to help keep your account secure. You must provide a phone number that we can use to send you a text message or call you with a verification code. Indicate how you would like the code to be delivered.
Step 8: Enter verification code
Once you receive the verification code, enter it to continue the process. The verification code is valid for 5 minutes.
If you do not receive a call or text, select Send New Code.
Step 9: Initial registration complete
We will mail you a personal identification number (PIN) that you will need to activate your account. You should receive the PIN letter within 5-7 business days via the United States Postal Service.
Note: For your protection, we will not provide your PIN by phone, FAX, or email.
You have 21 days from the date you register to enter your PIN to activate your account. If you do not, you will need to restart the process.
Step 10: Activate your account
Once you receive your PIN letter, you can activate your account.
Step 10a: Start the activation process
Start the activation process by selecting Log in to my account at ftb.ca.gov/myftb. Log in using the user name and password you created when you registered for MyFTB.
Step 10b: Enter PIN
When prompted, enter your one-time use PIN from the letter you received in the mail. The PIN is only used to activate your MyFTB account; you will not need it again to login.
Then select Continue to complete the activation.
Step 10c: Complete activation
Select your preferred delivery method for your verification code.
Once you receive the verification code, enter it to continue the process. The verification code is valid for 5 minutes.
If you do not receive a call or text, select Send New Code.
You may select Remember me on this computer to skip the verification code step the next time you log in. Do not select this option on a shared or public computer.
Step 11: Access your account
You can now access MyFTB to file Forms 592, 592-F, and 592-PTE online.
