Get help buying food while schools are closed Pandemic EBT
May 27, 2020
With schools closed due to COVID-19, children who are eligible for free or reduced-price meals can get added food benefits in addition to community "grab-n-go" meals.
Families will get up to $365 per eligible child on their Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) card to use on food and groceries. The program helps families buy food due to the school closures during the health emergency.
The Pandemic EBT program started taking applications on May 22, 2020, from families with children who are eligible for free or reduced-price school meals who did not receive their P-EBT card in the mail. These families must apply before June 30, 2020, to receive the extra food benefit during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The online application is available at ca.p-ebt.org.
Families with children who get CalFresh, Medi-Cal or Foster Care benefits do not need to apply. Most will get their P-EBT card in the mail during the month of May.
