Looking for Input – Liens Released in Error

On February 14, 2014, we held an interested parties meeting to solicit comments on a new regulation we are considering that would authorize specific procedures to authorize our staff release a lien under the discretionary language in Revenue and Taxation Code (R&TC) Section 21019, subdivision (f), together with a statement that the released lien should be treated as though it was filed or recorded in error.  / more+

Statewide Median Income Up In 2012

California’s median income for all 2012 individual tax returns was $35,910, an increase of 3.5 percent over 2011’s median income amount. For joint returns, the statewide median income was $70,938, an increase of 4.1 percent over 2011.  / more+

Under Revenue and Taxation Code Section 21004, the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate has the discretionary authority to grant relief up to $7,500 from penalties, fees, or interest imposed on a taxpayer because of erroneous actions or inactions of the department where none is available under any other statue and where no part of the error is attributable to the taxpayer.  / more+
