Credit Card Program Looks to Accept Business Entity Payments

Encouraged by strong taxpayer interest, we are currently working to expand our credit card payment capability to include business entity (BE) payments.

For some time now, we offer Personal Income Tax (PIT) taxpayers the option of using their credit cards to pay PIT estimates, extensions, and amounts due on current, previous, and prior year tax liabilities. Our third–party credit card processor charges a convenience fee for this service. Each year, thousands of PIT taxpayers opt to use their credit card to make millions in tax payments.

Based on the numerous requests, we consider it a priority to give our BEs this credit card payment option. Historically, we offered only two options for BE taxpayers to make payments: by check or BE Web Pay. BE Web Pay has its limitations, in that unless the BE has a previously–filed tax return, it is unable to enroll in and use Web Pay. Therefore, a newly established BE cannot use BE Web Pay the first year its taxes are due.

Our mission centers on making it easy for the taxpayer to meet its obligation to pay its income tax liability. Offering California BEs the option to pay by credit card contributes to that mission and is the next logical step in BE tax payment options.

We are currently working with our third–party credit card processor to make this option available for your BE clients later this year.
