Tax Professional: How To Check the Status of a Power of Attorney (POA) Declaration/Tax Information Authorization (TIA) Client Submitted on MyFTB

You can view the status of a POA Declaration that you submitted using the POA Wizard and the status of a TIA Client submitted using Add Individual/Business TIA Client on MyFTB. Once you have submitted the POA Declaration or TIA Client for processing, you can search for Active, Pending, and Inactive POA Declarations and TIA Clients.

To check the status of a POA Declaration and TIA Client submitted on MyFTB:

  • Log in to your MyFTB Tax Professional account.
    • Once you’re logged into MyFTB, if you need help with the page you’re on, select the “?” in the upper right corner of that page.
  • Select Client List from your main navigation menu or the Client List link in the Quick Links section on your Tax Professional Overview page.
  • Follow the “How To” instructions below.

  • Enter the search criteria in the Search Options section on your Client List page to check the status of a POA Declaration or TIA Client you submitted on MyFTB.
    • Select Client Type from the dropdown menu (Individual, Business, Fiduciary, or 540NR Nonresident Group Return).
    • Select the Relationship Type from the dropdown menu (All, TIA, or POA).
    • Select the Relationship Status from the dropdown menu (Active, Pending, or Inactive).
      • Select Pending.
  • Select the Search button.

Note: By default, all Active Individual clients display.

Search for a Pending POA or TIA Relationship

  • Review the search results in the Search Results section on your Client List page.
    • If you find the client you are searching for, select the View Details link in the Actions column.
  • Continue to Step 3.
  • If you do not find the client you are searching for:
    • Change the Relationship Status to Inactive in the Search Options section.
    • Select the Search button.
  • If you find the client you are searching for:
    • Select the View Details link in the Actions column.
  • Continue to Step 3.
  • If you are still unable to locate your client, contact the Tax Practitioner Hotline, 916.845.7057.

Note: To find specific clients, use the filter boxes at the top of each table column in the Search Results section.

Client List Page Search Results All Pending

The Taxpayer Relationship Detail page displays all POA and TIA relationships you have with this taxpayer and the Status of the relationship.

  • If Pending POA relationship:
    • Select the View POA Detail link in the Actions column.
    • Continue to Step 4.
  • If Pending TIA relationship:
    • Select the View TIA Detail link in the Actions column.
    • Skip to Step 5.
  • If Inactive POA relationship:
    • Select the View POA Detail link in the Actions column.
    • Skip to Step 6.
  • If Inactive TIA relationship:
    • If the Status is Rejected, select the View TIA Detail link in the Actions column.
    • Skip to Step 7.
    • If the Status is Revoked; nothing will display in the Actions column for that TIA request.
      • This TIA relationship is no longer Active.
      • No additional actions can be taken on this page.
    • Select the Back to previous link to return to your Client List page; to navigate to a different page, select from your Main Navigation Menu.
    • To establish a TIA relationship with this client, submit a new Add TIA Client request, see How To Add a TIA Client to My Client List.

Review Relationship Detail page

  • Review the status of your POA request in the Status section on the Power of Attorney Relationship (POA) Detail page.
  • No additional actions can be taken on this page.
  • Select the Back to previous link to return to the Taxpayer Relationship Detail page; to navigate to a different page, select from your Main Navigation Menu.

  • Review message displayed in the Pending TIA Relationship section.
  • No additional actions can be taken on this page.
  • Select the Back to previous link to return to the Taxpayer Relationship Detail page; to navigate to a different page, select an option from your Main Navigation Menu.

Relationship Detail page

  • If POA relationship is Rejected:
    • Review the Rejection Reason(s) in the Status section.
    • This is not a valid POA.
    • No additional actions can be taken on this page.
  • Select the Back to previous link to return to the Taxpayer Relationship Detail page; to navigate to a different page, select from your Main Navigation Menu.
  • To establish a POA relationship with this client, file a new POA Declaration, see How To Submit FTB Form 3520 (PIT or BE), Power of Attorney Declaration .
  • If POA relationship is Revoked:
    • This POA is no longer Active.
    • No additional actions can be taken on this page.

    • This is not a valid TIA relationship.

  • To establish a TIA relationship with this client, submit a new Add TIA Client request, see How To Add a TIA Client to My Client List.
