Tax Professional: How To Search for a Client on My Client List

To search for a POA or TIA client on your Client List, log in to MyFTB and follow the “How To” instructions below. If, once you’re logged into MyFTB, you need help with the page you’re on, select the “?” in the upper right corner of that particular page.

Searching for POA and TIA clients is very similar. The steps below illustrate how to search for a POA client and where appropriate key TIA differences are pointed out.

Client List

  • Select the type of client you want to search for from the dropdown menu.

Note: By default, all active individual clients display on the Client List page. Fiduciary (Estates or Trusts) and 540NR Nonresident Group Return client accounts are not available online at this time. From your Client List you can view and manage your relationships.

Client Type

  • Optionally, to narrow your results, select TIA or POA from the Relationship Type dropdown menu.
  • Select the Search button.

  • Optionally, to narrow your results, select Active, Pending, or Inactive from the Relationship Status dropdown menu.
  • Select the Search button.

  • If you are unable to locate your client in the Search Results section, try adding or removing criteria in the filter boxes at the top of each column of the Search Results table.

  • If you are searching for a client with a pending status, select the Relationship Type and Pending from the Relationship Status dropdown menu and search again.

    Pending POA statuses include:
    • Pending - Declaration was submitted via MyFTB or by mail and is being processed by FTB.
    • Pending Taxpayer Approval - Declaration was submitted via MyFTB without a signed copy of declaration attached. FTB has processed and accepted the declaration, and the declaration is pending taxpayer approval (taxpayer must log in to their MyFTB account and approve the declaration).
    • Hold– Declaration was approved by FTB and your client is being notified.

Pending TIA statuses include:

    • Pending – Client was added via MyFTB or the Tax Information Authorization (TIA) form was submitted by mail and is being processed by FTB.
    • Hold – TIA relationship was approved by FTB and your client is being notified.

Client Search Results

  • If you are unable to locate your client in the Search Results section, select Inactive from the Relationship Status dropdown menu, and search again.

    Inactive POA statuses include:
    • Revoked- Declaration was at one point an Active declaration, but the taxpayer or representative has revoked the declaration. This declaration is not considered valid.
    • Rejected– Declaration was processed by FTB, and is not considered valid.
    • Expired– Declaration was at one point an Active declaration, but has passed the expiration date. This declaration is not considered valid.
    • Canceled – Declaration was processed by FTB, and was canceled by the taxpayer before it became active. This declaration is not considered valid.

Inactive TIA statuses include:

    • Revoked - TIA relationship was at one point an Active relationship, but the taxpayer or representative has revoked the relationship. This relationship is not considered valid.
    • Revoked Permanent – TIA relationship is no longer active, was terminated by taxpayer; Relationship can be re‐established by the taxpayer by notifying FTB through MyFTB or by phone.
    • Rejected – TIA form was processed by FTB, and the TIA relationship is not considered valid.
    • Expired – TIA relationship was at one point an Active relationship, but has passed the expiration date. The TIA relationship is not considered valid.
    • Canceled – TIA form was processed by FTB, and was canceled by the taxpayer before it became active. This TIA relationship is not considered valid.
