The VITA computer based training application is currently unavailable. It will be available beginning January 4, 2016.
The VITA program helps taxpayers with basic tax returns. The online course is intended for the volunteer who will provide free quality tax return preparation services in their communities. This online course teaches the basic to accurately prepare California income tax returns for individuals; and users can obtain volunteer certification along the way at their own pace. From this learning system, you can access the minimum required training topics covering the most common area of need:
|Filing Status||CA Income Adjustments|
|Income||Child Tax Credit|
|Standard Deduction||Renter's Credit|
|Personal and Dependency Exemptions||Volunteer Procedures|
|Credit for Child and Dependent Care||Taxwise Tips|
You will be able to study all the sections of the VITA Volunteer Reference Manual. You will be able to take a quiz for each section to prepare you for a cumulative final exam covering all sections. You must receive a score of 70% or better on the final exam to receive a certificate that qualifies you as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant.
To get started, please click the link below. This will take you to the main menu and allow you to tab through all of the sections of the manual. Each section has a preparatory quiz associated with it. We suggest you take these quizzes before you attempt the final exam. Each quiz is 10 questions and the final exam is 50 questions. The quiz results are not recorded and are only for practice.
Note: Once you start the final exam, you must complete the exam within 45 minutes. If you exit the program or exceed 45 minutes you must restart the exam.
Good Luck and thanks for your interest in the VITA program.
