Was I properly notified of a tax issue?

Before we take collection actions on any delinquent tax account you have, we mail you a notice that meets due process requirements. This notice describes your tax liability, your rights to contest the liability, the consequences of non-compliance, and the deadline to avoid collection actions.

This notice satisfies the due process requirements even if you do not actually receive it. For example, if you moved, and did not contact us to update your address, the notice satisfies the due process requirements if we mailed it to your last known address. The due process requirements would have been met even if the U.S. Postal Service did not forward our notice to you.

Note: Updating your address with the U.S. Postal Service does not update your address with us. You must also contact us to update your address when you move.
