FTB Provides Online Refund Status Check in Spanish

The state's popular online refund status inquiry service is now available in Spanish, according to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB).

“Giving taxpayers the tools they need is what government should be about,” said State Controller and FTB Chair Steve Westly. “The new ‘Check My Refund Status’offered in Spanish will provide this convenient service to a whole new group of Californians.”

This Internet application allows taxpayers who have already filed their tax return to check on their return's status in processing. Most importantly, this allows them to learn where their refund is in the process. To date, more than 212,000 inquiries have been made to this e-service application-1,500 of them using the Spanish option.

Last year, 560,000 taxpayers used this service. All tax filing news and e-services are available online at the FTB's Website at www.ftb.ca.gov.

Last year, the FTB received 14.4 million personal income tax returns. Ten million of those returns claimed refunds averaging $736.

The FTB also provides other information in Spanish. The Ayuda en Espaol? Web page provides Spanish speaking taxpayers and tax professionals with information about how to contact the FTB via phone, email, or correspondence. The Portada en Espaol Web page provides Spanish-speaking taxpayers and tax professionals with information regarding FTB's various e-services.

Besides the Internet, taxpayers can use the FTB's automated phone service available in both English and Spanish. It is available anytime at (800) 338-0505 to get answers to frequently asked tax questions and to check on payments, balances due, or refunds. To speak with a customer service representative, taxpayers can call the FTB at (800) 852-5711 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
