New Employment Credit and Reservation System Campaign

January 8, 2014

Purpose of Bulletin

To inform staff of the New Employment Credit (NEC), and the roll-out of our NEC reservation system.

The NEC is a tax credit for businesses who hire qualified employees to work in a designated geographic area (DGA) beginning on January 1, 2014.

We recently updated our FAQs here.

An interactive map is available where taxpayers can enter an address and determine if it is in a DGA

To claim the credit, the taxpayer must obtain a credit reservation from FTB.  The New Employment Credit Reservation system (NECR) is now available to the public on our website here.

Additional Information

Additional information on the NEC is available on our website. Advise taxpayers they can go to and search for new employment credit.
