We reduced your Teacher Retention Credit to the maximum amount allowable.

Why did I receive this notice code?

The amount of the Teacher's Retention Credit (form FTB 3505) is limited to the lesser of the following:

  • The pre-established dollar amount based on the teacher's years of qualified service (see the chart below).
  • 50% of the amount of tax attributable to the taxpayer's wages and salary for service as a teacher.
Years of Credentialed Service Credit Amount
At least 4 years, but less than 6 years $ 250
At least 6 years, but less than 11 years $ 500
At least 11 years, but less than 20 years $1,000
20 years or more $1,500

Caution: Married filing jointly and both teachers - If married teachers file a joint return, we compute the amounts separately and then add together.

Note: The Teacher's Retention Credit was available for tax years 2000, 2001, and 2003. The credit was suspended for tax years 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2006, and was repealed in 2007.
