Purpose of Bulletin
To inform staff about Personal Identification Number (PIN) disclosure and the enhanced registration process for MyFTB.
On January 4, 2016, FTB launched the enhanced MyFTB. When customers register, we will mail a PIN to the address on record. The individual must then use the PIN plus the username and password to complete registration. The PIN is valid for 21 days from the date the individual started their registration.
FTB staff will never disclose a PIN to customers over the phone except in very limited circumstances.
Field office public counter staff may retrieve and provide a copy of the PIN letter only after a Government issued photo ID has been verified.
One of FTB’s foundational principles is to protect taxpayer information and privacy. Limiting access to the PIN adds additional security to our online services.
