Subject: Chief Counsel Appointment
I am pleased to announce the appointment of Jozel Brunett as Franchise Tax Board's (FTB) Chief Counsel, effective December 5, 2012.
Jozel started her career at the FTB in 1994 as a Tax Counsel and most recently served as Assistant Chief Counsel over the Tax Administration & Procedure (TAP) Bureau where she represented and provided guidance to the department with respect to administrative and procedural issues. She has served as the Legal Division representative on several enterprise executive teams and recently transitioned to being a member of the Governance Council. Prior to joining FTB, Jozel worked in private law practice for seven years.
Jozel is a graduate of California State University, Chico with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and she earned her Juris Doctor from the UC Davis School of Law.
I would also like to offer a special thank you to Jozel, Pat Bittner, Carl Joseph, Pat Kusiak, Norm Scott, Elleene Tessier and Teresa Wignall for the expertise, assistance and guidance they provided in their rotating roles as acting Chief Counsel throughout the hiring process over the last three months. Their individual and collective contribution toward overseeing the Legal Division is greatly appreciated.
