Sacramento — Free tax return preparation services will be offered by hundreds of volunteers in dozens of locations throughout California on Tax Day (Tuesday, April 18), tax officials and nonprofit partners announced today.

IRS-certified tax preparers at Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) sites will assist with state and federal returns and check taxpayer eligibility for the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and the companion federal EITC, cash-back refunds available to low-income families.

“Thanks to all of the dedicated volunteers and nonprofit partners, plenty of options are still available to get help meeting the April 18 deadline,” said Controller Betty T. Yee, chair of the Franchise Tax Board.

The following VITA locations will be open on April 18:

In Southern California

  • A Tax Day Marathon will run from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Koreatown Youth and Community Center, located at 3727 W. 6th St., Suite 300, Los Angeles. Southland residents may visit and call 2-1-1 for information about this site and many other Los Angeles-area VITA locations.

In the Bay Area

  • Last-minute tax help will be available from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lundy Post Office, located at 1750 Lundy Ave., San Jose. Assistance will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Bay Area residents may call 2-1-1 or visit for information about dozens of local VITA sites that will be open.

In the Capital Region

  • VITA volunteers staffing the CalEITC eBus will prepare returns from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Asian Resources, Inc., located at 5709 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento. Sacramento residents may call 2-1-1 or 916.498.1000 to make an appointment.
