The VITA program helps taxpayers with basic tax returns.
The online training prepares volunteers to provide quality tax return preparation services in their local communities. This online course teaches the basics to accurately prepare California income tax returns for individuals; and users can obtain volunteer certification along the way at their own pace! Students will make their way through lessons that include income tax and volunteer procedures topics and income tax preparation problems. More knowledgeable students can use the course as a refresher. Users can review the tax law, take a quiz for each of the sections, and complete sample tax return preparation scenarios.*

You will be able to study all the sections of the California Volunteer Reference Manual. You will also be able to take a quiz for each section to prepare you for a cumulative final exam covering all sections. You must receive a 70% or better score on the final exam to receive a certificate of completion that qualifies you as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistant.

We suggest you take these quizzes before you attempt the final exam. Each quiz is 10 questions and the final exam is 50 questions. The quiz results are not recorded and are only for practice.
