To get a permanent position with FTB, you must first take an exam for a specific classification. Once you pass the exam and are placed on an eligibility list, you may apply for job openings for that classification.
You do not need to take an exam for Seasonal, Student Assistant, or Retired Annuitant positions.

*You do not need to be a state employee to apply for open exams. Promotional exams are limited to FTB employees with permanent status and individuals retired/honorably discharged from US Military and meet the criteria in Assembly Bill 3065.
