A Pittsburg man was arrested Sunday, May 19 on six counts of failing to file state income tax returns, according to the Franchise Tax Board (FTB).
Richard Deil, 45, was arrested without incident by officers from the Pittsburg Police Department. Deil was booked on charges that he failed to file state income tax returns for tax years 1995 - 2000. He earned in excess of $395,000 as a millwright during the years under investigation. He owes the state more than $9,700 in delinquent taxes. Penalties and interest are not included in this figure.
Deil told FTB investigators that he knew tax returns were due each April 15, but he failed to file because he was "stuck on stupid."
Deil is being held in the Contra Costa County Jail in Richmond.
Arraignment is scheduled for May 28. If convicted, Deil could receive
a maximum sentence of three years in state prison and $120,000 in
fines.
