Martinez Woman Arrested on State Income Tax Charges

Released April 8, 2008

A Martinez woman was arrested on felony charges of state income tax charges and an unrelated failure to appear bench warrant, the Franchise Tax Board (FTB) announced.

Nanette U. Conley, 54, also known as Nanette Ujdur, the owner and operator of Allstate Glass Centers, Inc., was arrested without incident at her home April 7 by Contra Costa County deputies. According to FTB investigators, Conley allegedly failed to file her 2001 – 2003 personal income tax returns claiming the nearly $500,000 in unreported income she earned. She allegedly filed a fraudulent 2004 state income tax return failing to claim the income she received from her business. She owes the state more than $50,000 in state income tax. In addition, Allstate Glass Centers, Inc. has not filed its 2002, 2003, and 2004 corporate tax returns.

Each felony tax count carries a maximum term of 3 years in state prison.

The failure to file income tax returns and filing fraudulent tax returns are part of the $6.5 billion tax gap California faces. The tax gap is defined as the difference between the tax that is due and the tax that is paid.

Conley was scheduled to be at the Contra Costa County Superior Court April 7 on an unrelated case. She failed to appear for the hearing, and the judge issued a bench warrant for her arrest. Contra Costa County deputies, accompanied by FTB investigators, arrested Conley on both warrants.

Conley was booked into the Contra Costa County Jail. Her bail amount on the tax charges is $75,000 and $10,000 on the failure to appear warrant. Her next court date has not been set.

Contra Costa County Deputy District Attorney Steve Bolin is prosecuting the case.
